Overview

The Korean Syllables Table is an interactive grid that combines consonants and vowels to show every possible Hangeul syllable block.

How it works

Hangeul syllables are built by combining:
  • An initial consonant (초성) — the first sound in the block
  • A vowel (중성) — the middle sound
The table arranges all consonants along one axis and all vowels along the other, so every intersection shows a valid syllable.

How to use this page

  1. Scan across the grid to see how a single consonant combines with every vowel.
  2. Scan down to see how a single vowel sounds with every consonant.
  3. Use it alongside Korean Alphabet to connect individual letters to full syllable blocks.
Recognising syllable patterns speeds up reading — you stop seeing individual letters and start seeing whole blocks.
